Hi Charles;

Just a few things I thought of while using your site. I hope I don't sound like a pain in the ass for so many suggestions, I was trying to be constructive... though I would understand if you said they were scope/feature creep.

The big ones I can think of right now were:
  •  a section with a map of the local area where people can write in directions.
  • a location brief location description to come up to the right of the topo list when you first arrive at a location.
  • Route variations - some way to differentiate between, for example, a 5.10 and 5.8 variation on the same route.
  • detailed local information - climbing access/rules, contact information, history, extended description...  - really just seperating the "notes" section out.

Oh, one I just thought of... when making a route, having checkboxes for Boulder, TopRope, Sport, and Trad would be handy... this could be displayed at the in the routelist to make finding routes to climb easier depending on your discipline.  Right now, I've just been writing them into the description.

Hi Larry, thanks for these - I agree with a lot of what you said. I have been thinking of splitting the notes into a standard set of headers which might address some of your points.

We have the google maps on the region and area pages but not the crag pages. We also have the sketch map tool (which is OK but needs improving). Sketch maps can be quite useful even if they are very basic and in fact are often better than google maps for micro information like descents/ approaches.

The brief location description is good idea - maybe a set of fields like rock type, aspect, predominant climbing style...

I am working on displaying the topos as jpeg images at the moment. This will have the major advantage of not needing to load java to view the topos although the topo editor will still be just a click away. It will also mean a redesign of the location/crag pages so now is a good time to air your ideas.....
