Introductions
Topic:  Some nice new stuff

It has been a productive few weeks on the development front lately and we have rolled out a number of new features and enhancements.

First up, there is a new introductions forum where the introduction in your profile will get automatically posted for everyone to see whenever it is edited. If you have already put an inroduction in your profile but cannot see it on the forum, then a quick re-save hould do the trick.

There are also a number of enhancements to the topo library and topo editor including a new easier to use page for creating topos and re-ordering and colouring routes in the topos....

New topo image uploader

A while back there was a "create topo" link on the home page which would take you to a form where a new topo image could be uploaded. It was a bit tedious to use - first you had to select a country then a region etc and you could'nt go back; you could only start again from the beginning. A few people commented on this and we decided to remove it and just have a "create topo" link on each crag page.  The new form has a series of drop-down lists that interact with each other - you can change the values all you like and add new items. Also the image uploader will automatically resize files that are too big although it can still only handle up to 500k. We are working on this and hope it will soon be possible to upload much bigger files straight off your camera - still, it is often better to prepare files before uploading as you get to control the resizing etc.

Topo Library Mods and Enhancements

  • Topos and sectors can now be re-arranged in the crag pages.
  • Routes can be arranged top to bottom, left to right etc. The default is left to right. Custom arrangement is on the way.
  • Different colours can be selected for routes in the topos so the lines can be made clearer by standing out from the background image and adjacent lines.
  • With a system for endorsing route descriptions in the pipeline, all route descriptions are now tagged as unconfirmed by default.

Coming Soon

Top on the list of priorities is iPhone support. We are starting with a redesign of the crag pages which should be ready to use sometime this month. In the medium term we are looking at developing an iPhone app to harness the GPS capabilities of this platform.

Good site, just a small thing, I want to point out Suspense on Suspension Bridge Buttress "is a soft touch at E1" because it is actually HVS! cheers Mark

Er.. depends. It was HVS when I first did it but in the current Avon and Cheddar book it gets E1. I agree it is a soft touch but several E1s spring to mind that are easier.

If you think it is wrong then why not edit it Mark?
